This article formed the basis of Professor Vleeming's presentation to us at the APPI Conference in London in 2014. The link between the Thoracolumbar fascia and the deep abdominal and paraspinal muscles has long been a source of ongoing research. Professor Andrey Vleeming and his team have been at the forefront of this since the early 1990's. This latest article looks in depth at the relationship between these muscle structures and the middle and posterior layer of the fascia. Here, we see the connection between the fascia and the Transversus Abdominis as the proposed Common Transversus Tendon (CTrA). This is a unique view of how muscle and fascia together provide significant stabilisation to the spine rather than being independent.
